In continued support of Central Vermont’s families and children, VSECU recently donated $5,000 to the Family Center of Washington County as part of a larger donation pledged in 2007. VSECU will contribute a total of $25,000 over five years to the Family Center’s $2.6 million Capital Campaign, which was kicked off in late March, to fund a multi-year building project on Sherwood Drive in Montpelier.
“We are very excited to be able to be part of the Family Center of Washington County’s expanded community effort,” said Steven D. Post, VSECU’s chief executive officer. “Through the years, we have watched the Family Center’s outreach grow and develop to provide much-needed child care, child development and parent education programs throughout our communities in central Vermont. We are happy to contribute to this much needed service in Vermont.”
Over the past 37 years, the Family Center has grown from a small teaching facility for Vermont College of Norwich University's Early Childhood Programs to an independent, nonprofit organization focusing on building strong families. The Family Center provides child care for children 6 weeks to 12 years, parent education classes and a wide array of family support programs. In addition to working one-on-one with families, the Family Center collaborates with local communities, schools and human service agencies.
Lee Lauber, the Family Center’s executive director, praised VSECU for its generous commitment to children and families. “Both the Family Center and VSECU are nonprofit organizations dedicated to making our local community healthy and nurturing for all its citizens. This multi-year gift moves us that much closer to reaching our total capital campaign goal. The members of VSECU and the families we serve will all benefit for decades from the improved services to be available at our first permanent home.”
The Vermont State Employees Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, which offers a full range of affordable financial products and services to its member-owners. People eligible to join the credit union include anyone who lives or works in Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Lamoille, Orange, Rutland and Washington counties, along with Vermont's state employees and their families.
